Rush, NY — February 23rd — Firefighters from the Honeoye Falls Fire Department participated in an ice and water rescue training exercise alongside members of the Rush Volunteer Fire Department. The purpose of the exercise was to get teams ready for situations involving victims on frozen or unstable rivers. On the ice, firefighters trained using ropes, flotation equipment, cold-water rescue suits, and coordinated team movement.

Strong communication between response workers, specialized equipment, and meticulous planning are all necessary for ice rescue incidents. Regular training is crucial to ensuring safe operations during water rescue situations, according to the National Fire Protection Association. Joint drills with nearby departments, according to officials, improve mutual aid coordination and guarantee that firemen are prepared to handle ice and cold-water crises throughout the winter.
