Rochester, NY — March 9th — The Monroe County Sheriff's Office sponsored an awards ceremony to honor Rochester Fire Department personnel assigned to Engine 19 Group 2. Firefighters Bryan Keenan, Christopher Consler, Alexander Lugo, and Captain James Cory received recognition for their efforts during a winter ice rescue.

In response to a cold-water emergency, crews collaborated to safely extract a casualty from the ice. Coordinated effort, cold-water suits, and specialized equipment are needed for ice rescues. Every winter, fire units in upstate New York receive training for situations involving frozen streams. The honor, according to officials, emphasizes the importance of planning ahead and working together across agencies during water rescue situations.
