This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Honeoye Falls, NY — February 24th — The Rush Volunteer Fire Department held an ice and water rescue training for members of the Honeoye Falls Fire Department, situated at 7 Monroe St. Together, firefighters from the two departments reviewed methods for handling cold-water incidents. In order to safely reach patients who fall through frozen water, crews practiced using ice rescue suits, ropes, flotation equipment, and coordinated team actions.

Unstable ice and restricted victim access are two of the special difficulties that winter water disasters frequently bring. Because there are so many lakes, ponds, and streams in the area, departments in Monroe County often train for similar scenarios. According to officials, training guarantees that members stay knowledgeable about equipment and ready for ice rescue situations.
