Hillcrest Fire Company No. 1 members trained with a new breakable window prop after doing normal apparatus maintenance on March 16. Firefighters utilized the prop to practice V.E.I.S. (Vent, Enter, Isolate, explore), a technique used during structure fires to quickly explore rooms through an exterior window. Crews were divided into teams and tasked with putting a ladder in a simulated bailout room, venting the window, and entering the space to conduct a search while operating under blackout conditions.
