March 12, 2026 — Appling County Emergency Management Agency announced that the National Weather Service has officially cancelled Tornado Watch 50 for multiple counties across southeastern Georgia. The cancellation includes 11 counties: Appling, Atkinson, Bacon, Brantley, Clinch, Coffee, Echols, Jeff Davis, Pierce, Ware, and Wayne. Communities affected by the cancellation include Alma, Baxley, Blackshear, Douglas, Hazlehurst, Jesup, Nahunta, Waycross, and several surrounding areas. The watch had previously been issued due to the threat of severe thunderstorms capable of producing tornadoes, damaging winds, and hazardous conditions. With the system moving out of the region and conditions improving, officials determined that the tornado threat had diminished sufficiently to cancel the watch. Emergency management officials remind residents to remain cautious following severe weather events, as hazards such as downed trees, debris, and localized flooding may still be present. Residents are encouraged to continue monitoring local updates and report any storm-related damage to appropriate authorities.
