Manchester, NY — February 16th — Instructors from the Finger Lakes Regional EMS Council conducted a CPR training and skills refresher at the Manchester Fire Department, located at 8 Clifton St. Firefighters tested practical methods utilized in cardiac crises and evaluated current CPR protocols. Early CPR can increase survival until more advanced medical care arrives, as sudden cardiac arrest continues to be a major cause of death in the US.

The LifeVac, a portable anti-choking tool intended to assist in clearing airway obstructions when conventional techniques are ineffective, was another tool that members practiced using. EMS training is a crucial component of routine drills because medical calls account for a significant portion of responses for many fire departments. Manchester firemen were able to preserve the skills necessary to help during medical situations thanks to the session.
