Canandaigua, NY — March 2nd — Together with four fire departments from Steuben County and fire instructors from New York State, Canandaigua VAFD firefighters assisted in the construction of a new burn facility that would facilitate live-fire training for both present and future firefighters. State instructors were able to practice training scenarios and familiarize themselves with the structure during the evening session. Alongside firefighters from Steuben County departments, members of the Bath and Canandaigua VAs took part as students.

Controlled fire training, a crucial component of firefighter certification and continuous skill development, will take place in the burn facility. A few of participants also work in emergency medical services. Sam Polanco, Nate Sherry, Joshua Kastning, Joshua Snyder, and Patrick Sick are all licensed EMTs or paramedics. In addition, Polanco and Sherry support regional training initiatives as NY State Fire Instructors.
