February 12, 2026 — Members of the Sidney Fire Department gathered for a work detail to place new Scott SCBA air packs, bottles, and masks into service, enhancing the life-safety equipment used by firefighters during emergency responses.
The equipment purchase was made possible through the efforts of the Sidney Fire Department Corporation, which operates alongside the Village of Sidney Fire Department. While the fire department handles operational duties such as emergency response, drills, and training, the corporation—made up of a Board of Directors and Trustees—oversees the department’s training center, financial investments, donations, and other business matters.
The newly acquired equipment represents a significant investment in firefighter safety, totaling more than $215,000. Department officials noted that the purchase was funded entirely through years of community fundraisers, donations, and responsible financial investments, meaning the equipment was obtained without using taxpayer funds or increasing local taxes.
Fundraising events such as turkey raffles, bowling tournaments, and other community activities help support these types of major equipment purchases. Department leaders emphasized that every donation contributes to maintaining and improving the tools firefighters rely on to protect both themselves and the community.
The Sidney Fire Department expressed its appreciation to the many residents and supporters whose contributions helped make the purchase possible.
