March 7, 2026 — Members of the Bernville Community Fire Company dedicated six hours of their Saturday to expanding their skills during a Farm Emergency Awareness class presented by RescueTechs, LLC.
The training began with a classroom session where firefighters reviewed the numerous hazards first responders may encounter on agricultural properties. Topics included farm machinery risks, confined spaces, equipment entanglement dangers, and strategies for safely approaching emergencies in rural farm environments.
Following the classroom portion and lunch, participants traveled to a local farm for hands-on learning. During the visit, firefighters were able to closely examine a variety of farm implements, explore different styles of equipment cabs, and discuss real-world safety concerns directly with the farmer. The experience provided valuable insight into the daily hazards present on working farms and how responders can better prepare for potential emergencies.
Members from several neighboring departments also participated in the training, including the Strausstown Volunteer Fire Company, Summit Station Fire Company, Shoey Fire Company, and Shartlesville Community Fire Company #1 (Station 41), highlighting the strong cooperation among local emergency services.
The Bernville Community Fire Company also expressed appreciation to the Lesher Family for hosting the group at their farm and taking time out of their busy schedules to support the training. Participants were even treated to milkshakes afterward at the Way-Har Farms store along Route 183.
