West Danby Fire and Rescue Marks International Women’s Day

West Danby, NY — March 8th — In honor of International Women's Day, West Danby Fire and Rescue honored a number of its employees. For their community service, the department recognized Assistant Chief Samantha VanEtten, Firefighter Jordan Brown, Firefighter Marrell Cortright, Firefighter Laura Barton, and Firefighter Kayla McCray. In New York State, women continue to play a significant role in the volunteer fire service as officers, firefighters, and EMS providers.


In addition to aiding department operations and training, these individuals respond to fires, auto accidents, and other emergencies. Acknowledging their efforts serves to draw attention to the increasing number of female firefighters and their contributions to public safety. Residents of the Town of Danby are served by West Danby Fire and Rescue, which is based at 47 Sylvan Lane.
