Irvington Firefighters Train on Building Construction

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Irvington, NY — February 17th — Instructors from Signal 73 Fire Training LLC conducted a building construction-focused training night for members of the Irvington Volunteer Fire Department. The lecture covered the behavior of various structure types during fires as well as how design techniques might impact ventilation, collapse possibility, and fire propagation. The wood-frame, conventional, and lightweight construction employed in many contemporary buildings were among the common constructions that firefighters evaluated in the area.

The performance of structural elements like trusses and engineered timber in fire situations was also covered by the instructors. Because it enables crews to make safer tactical decisions during interior operations and overhaul, building construction knowledge is a crucial component of firefighter training. These training are periodically held by departments throughout the region to keep firemen up to date on contemporary building and changing fireground concerns.
