Bedford, NY — February 18th — Recently, members of the Bedford Fire Department convened at the firehouse to hear Captain Peter Meineck discuss his recently published book. Firefighters had the chance to learn more about the initiative and honor one of their own for achievements outside the fire department during the event. Professor and author Captain Meineck, who is well-known for his contributions to leadership and classical studies, gave department members advice on how to write and talked about the book's subjects.

The event also brought attention to the diverse backgrounds of volunteer fire departments. Teachers, craftspeople, lawyers, and professionals from a wide range of other disciplines make up the Bedford Fire Department. The department still welcomes locals who want to volunteer for emergency services.
