Bedford Fire Department Joins Multi-Agency Ice Rescue Training

Bedford, NY — February 16th — Along with other Town of Bedford fire and emergency medical services, members of the Bedford Fire Department took part in the first night of ice rescue training. Coordinated operations for situations where individuals are trapped on ice or in freezing water were the main emphasis of the training. In order to safely reach and retrieve people from unstable ice, crews practiced using rescue sleds, ropes, and ice rescue suits.


In order to guarantee that several authorities can work together during winter emergencies, the exercise also examined incident command and communication protocols. In order to keep firefighters and EMS personnel ready for emergencies involving cold weather in the Town of Bedford, joint drills such as this one are frequently conducted during the winter.
