Roosevelt, NY — February 27th — Members of the Roosevelt Fire District participated in an ice rescue training simulation alongside Fairview Fire District firemen.

During the hands-on exercise, teams rehearsed ice rescue size-up, scene safety protocols, and deploying specialized ice rescue suits and equipment. Firefighters also practiced victim packaging and evacuation methods while coordinating shoreline operations and fast intervention support.

Officials noted that training in real-world winter conditions helps rescuers stay prepared for ice-related crises, which are considered high-risk but relatively unusual situations. The departments stated that collaborative drills promote teamwork among mutual aid partners and coordination during emergency responses.

The department also cautioned people that ice conditions can change fast and that no ice is entirely safe.
