CHESHIRE, NY — February 16th —Members of the Cheshire Volunteer Fire Department practiced ice water rescue at Onanda Park on Canandaigua Lake in preparation for possible winter emergencies.
During the training, firefighters worked on cold-water survival skills, victim retrieval, and the proper use of specialized ice rescue equipment. Crews also worked on coordinated team operations to safely approach and rescue people who might fall through the ice.
Officials say that hands-on training in genuine winter settings enables firemen to respond promptly and safely to cold-water emergencies.
