Engine 4 at a recent incident. The Paterson Fire Department is a career fire department that employs around 370 firefighters. Paterson is the third largest city in the State of NJ with a population of about 159,000 residents among 9 square miles. Paterson FD also provides emergency medical service on the BLS level.
