NEW RESCUE IN CHATHAM TOWNSHIP; KME TO MOVE

In Morris County, the Chatham Township Volunteer Fire Department placed in service a new Sutphen heavy rescue truck. It replaces a 2001 International 4900/E-ONE heavy rescue which I had always found attractive (and still do). A photo of the old and new trucks is on page 12 of the September issue under “Old & New". The new truck, equally attractive in my opinion, keeps the same major firefighting components as the former unit, namely a 300-GPM pump, 300-gallon water tank and 30-gallon foam tank. To be more specific, the truck has a Monarch chassis powered by a Cummins X12, 500 hp diesel engine (which combined provides more seating and probably a more powerful motor), a Hale APS-30-23 pump, UPF 300-gallon water tank, Foam Pro 2002 system, 30-gallon Class “B” foam tank, 1 ¾-inch front bumper line, Ramsey four-ton winch, Norcold refrigerator, 20-foot non-walk-in body with rear access to the top, On Spot tire chains, Harrison 6-kw generator, Will Burt Night Scan and FRC lighting.

The news about the REV Group relocating the KME factory in Nesquehoning, Pennsylvania and Roanoke, Virginia, is recent and at this time there are few further details other than the brand will be built in other existing factories. There have been unofficial stories circulating beyond this, but until information becomes fact, we will mark time.

In the photos besides the Chatham Township rescue are apparatus from Red Bank in Monmouth County and the City of Orange (Essex County). From Red Bank are two oldies but goodies, namely Engine 94, a 2006 Seagrave Marauder and Tower 90, a 2000 American LaFrance Eagle mid-mount platform. Their latest two apparatus are twin Ferrara Cinder pumpers for Engines 96 and 93. From Orange we have Engine 4, a 2021 Ferrara Igniter quint and for Squad 1 a 2021 Ferrara Cider MVP rescue pumper. With these two additions, the City of Orange now has five Ferrara apparatus at their headquarters station.

In dealer news, Fire & Safety Services reports the following Pierce deliveries: an Enforcer Heavy Duty Rescue Pumper to the Ocean View FC in Dennis Township (Cape May County) and a Saber pumper to Morristown (Morris County). It is Morristown’s first Pierce unit. Pierce orders include an Impel pumper for Rockaway Township (Morris County), an Enforcer pumper for Woodland Park (Passaic County), an Enforcer 107-foot Ascendant aerial for the Southard FRC in Howell Township (Monmouth County) and an Enforcer Heavy Duty Rescue Pumper for River Edge (Bergen County).

VCI Emergency Vehicle Specialists reports the following Horton ambulance deliveries: in Burlington County, a 553 stock remount on a 2021 Ford E-450 chassis to the Lenola EMS Station in Moorestown and a 553 remount on a 2019 Ford E-450 to Mount Laurel EMS. In Morris County, a 603 on a 2021 Ford F-550 4x4 to the Long Valley FAS and in Camden County a 523 on a 2021 Ford E-450 to the Pennsauken FD.

Blaze Emergency Equipment has received an order from Laurence Harbor in Old Bridge Township (Middlesex County) for a Sutphen Monarch pumper. Specs include a 185-inch wheelbase, six seat cab, Hale Qmax 2000-GPM pump, 750-gallon water and 40-gallon foam tanks, 1 ½-inch front bumper discharge, two 1 ¾-inch crosslays, Elkhart Scorpion electric deck gun, TFT Blitzfire hand monitor, Smart Power 6 kw generator, Fire Tech scene lights and a 360-degree camera.

Campbell Supply Co., LLC has delivered to East Windsor Co. 2 (Mercer County), a Spartan ER Gladiator pumper. Specs include Cummins ISX 15, 565 hp diesel engine, 21-inch stainless steel bumper, Advance Protection System, Advanced Climate Control, Waterous CSU, 1750-GPM pump, 1500-gallon water tank, two 2-inch and one 2 ½-inch crosslays, right and left auxiliary intakes, front intake and discharge, aluminum body Smart Storage wheel wells, Harrison 8 kw hydraulic generator and Whelen scene lighting. They have received an order from the Edison Division of Fire (Middlesex County) for a Spartan ER pumper. Specs include a Metro Star MFD chassis with 10-inch raised roof, Cummins ISL 450 hp diesel engine, 8-inch severe duty front bumper, Hale Qmax, 1500-GPM pump, 750-gallon water tank, left and right auxiliary intakes, two 2-inch and one 2 ½-inch crosslays, aluminum body, vertical ladder storage beside water tank, suction hose storage in catwalk, SCBA storage in wheel wells, Harrison 6 kw hydraulic generator and Whelen scene lighting.

Absolute Fire Protection has received an order from the City of Plainfield (Union County) for an E-ONE 95-foot mid-mount platform similar to their existing one. It will have a modified ladder tunnel to accommodate a 50-foot ground ladder. Their older E-ONE platform will also be modified to carry the same size ground ladder. Cresskill (Bergen County) has ordered a Cyclone pumper with low hose bed and the City of Newark (Essex County) has ordered two Typhoon pumpers similar to their last order a few years ago and a 110-foot rear-mount with similar specs as the last one, but with a new style Typhoon chassis.
