VEHICLES FROM HUDSON COUNTY

(Author’s Note: In last month’s column there was a typo amongst the Margate City pumpers. Engine 21 is a 2015 Spartan ERV Metro Star and Engine 22 is a 2023 Spartan ER Metro Star, S-180.)

Hudson County, the smallest county in area in our state, is also the most congested. It is my home county in which I was born (Bayonne), and still reside. I am a retired battalion chief from the Bayonne FD, having served 33 years. I would describe Hudson County as mainly urban with the exception of Secaucus, which I would describe as suburban, although it continues to build. Secaucus and East Newark are volunteer fire departments. The rest are paid. Guttenberg was volunteer until it was merged with the North Hudson Regional Fire Rescue. The NHRFR consists of Union City, West New York, Weehawken, North Bergen and Guttenberg. The rest of the county consists of Bayonne, Jersey City, Hoboken, Kearny and Harrison. The vehicles featured today are Secaucus Engine 2, one of the last KME’s sold by the previous dealer. Next are two ambulances. One is part of the North Bergen EMS. It is one of several Medix ambulances of which they continue to purchase. Next is a Braun from the West New York EMS who prefer this manufacturer. Two E-ONE pumpers from Jersey City are featured, assigned to Engines 2 and 18, as well as Ladder 3’s interim truck, a Pierce Dash tiller purchased from Kingston, NY, while they await a new E-ONE 100-foot tiller which was on display at the FDIC. It will be their first E-ONE tiller. Lastly is NHRFR Ladder 5, a 102-foot Ferrara rear-mount.

In apparatus news, the Seagrave Fire Apparatus website shows three deliveries to our state. They are a Marauder pumper to Englewood (Bergen County). Specs include a Cummins L9, 450 hp diesel engine, Waterous CSU 1750-gpm pump, 750-gallon water tank, 50-gallon foam tank, stainless steel body, 24-inch front bumper with discharge, and a 182.5-inch wheelbase. Next is a Marauder pumper to Neptune City (Monmouth County). Specs include a Cummins L9, 450 hp diesel engine, Waterous CMU 2000-gpm pump, 750-gallon water tank, stainless steel body, 18-inch front bumper extension with discharge and 193.5-inch wheelbase. The third is to Montgomery Township FC 2, Blawenburg (Somerset County) for a 95-foot Aerialscope with Marauder chassis. It has a Cummins X 12, 525 hp diesel engine, stainless steel body, 247-inch wheelbase, TFT Monsoon electric monitor, Harrison 6 kw generator and FRC scene lighting.
