This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

After 73 years of independent operation, the Coventry Volunteer Firefighters Association and North Coventry Volunteer Fire Department merged on June 30th. The new department will be known as "Town of Coventry Fire & EMS". As indicated this agency will continue to handle the ambulance service that was taken over a few years earlier. Bud Meyers, who previously served as Chief in North Coventry, will be the interim Chief for the new agency.

The Town will continue operating out of four stations as department 18. All units will be identified with their "type" followed by station assignment and the 18 designation. EMS units with be numbered with the 500 series and based out of Station 2 at 3427 Main St. The department will remain a volunteer organization but will now staff the first out Ambulance with a paid/per-diem crew.
