WOODMERE, NY - On June 14, 2005, retired Rescue 2 Lt. Peter Lund died of a heart attack in his hometown in Woodmere. It was where he served as a volunteer fireman. Pete Lund joined FDNY in 1973 and was promoted to Lt in 1984.

Pete was a Rescue Lieutenant in Rescue 3. He returned to Rescue 2 in 1995 and stayed with Rescue 2 until he retired in 2003. Pete was instrumental in rope rescue, confined space rescue, and scuba with Rescue 2.

Pete was also a fire instructor at Nassau County fire training academy. Pete was also a fire chief for the Woodmere Fire Department. Pete was also a member of the Kentland volunteer Fire Department in Maryland. Pete Lund shoes will be hard to fill. There will never be another one like him. To some fellow firefighters he was considered a pioneer.

There was another side of him no one knew of Pete Lund. As a fellow fire photographer. He was one of the best photographers I had ever seen. He had many photos in Fire Apparatus Journal, Firehouse, and WNYF. Pete died what he always loved doing. He will be sorely missed.
