On June 27, 2026, the Malaga Volunteer Fire Company #1 was dispatched for a motor vehicle accident. Probationary Firefighter Robert “Bobby” Reider III was responding in his personal vehicle from his house to the station to staff the apparatus. While responding to the station, Probationary Firefighter Reider’s vehicle left the roadway and struck a fire hydrant and a utility pole. Probationary Firefighter Reider suffered traumatic injuries. The Malaga Volunteer Fire Company #1 units were diverted to this scene, extricated Probationary Firefighter Reider, and began life saving measures. Probationary Firefighter Reider was then airlifted to a trauma center where he remained in critical condition until his passing on July 10, 2026.
