Tewksbury Township, NJ — December 27 — In response to a reported chimney fire in Tewksbury Township, the Califon Fire Company called in Ladder 18 from the Lebanon Borough Fire Company, located at 88 Main Street. When firemen arrived, they discovered that the fire had spread from the chimney onto nearby wall and floor regions. In order to find and put out hidden fire, crews carefully opened up interior spaces to prevent further spread. While utilities were secured, mutual aid teams assisted with overhaul and suppression operations. No civilian injuries were reported once the event was brought under control. According to fire officials, early identification and comprehensive inspections are essential because chimney fires can spread beyond the flue into other structural elements. The cause of the fire is still being looked into. Particularly during the winter heating season, residents are advised to routinely repair and inspect their chimneys.
