Today, Retired FDNY Lieutenant Gary Howard was laid to rest in a funeral service held at St. Mel’s Roman Catholic Church. Lt. Howard served during the Department’s War Years in some of the busiest companies across Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Queens, and completed his distinguished career at Rescue 2 in Brooklyn. Like many who responded to Ground Zero, Lt. Howard later battled a World Trade Center–related illness and passed away peacefully at home.
