In collaboration with Pittsburgh Fire Fighters Local No. 1, the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire held their yearly Sensory Santa event, providing kids and families in the neighborhood with a free and welcoming holiday experience. Families signed up for one-on-one meetings with Santa in sensory-friendly rooms created to provide a peaceful and cheerful atmosphere. Volunteer behavioral therapists or special education instructors assisted each visit, allowing kids with impairments or those on the autistic spectrum to experience the festive custom in an accessible environment. Additionally, each youngster was given a toy to open while they were there. More than 50 families attended this year, demonstrating the event's ongoing expansion and the robust community support provided by funders and local partners.
