After being asked to speak at a Pocono Lions Club meeting, members of the Tobyhanna Township Volunteer Fire Company took part in a community outreach and fire prevention program. The risks of carbon monoxide in the household were the main topic of the talk. Engineer/EMT BJ Muzzy and Firefighter/EMT Matt Butler discussed what carbon monoxide is, common signs and symptoms of exposure and poisoning, and practical steps residents can take to keep their homes safe. The session also allowed members to answer safety-related questions from attendees.
At the Nathan family's request, the outreach initiative was developed in honor of Pocono Pines residents Bill and Ellen Nathan, who passed away earlier this year as a result of a carbon monoxide incident in their home. Station 41 acknowledged the Pocono Lions Club's continued community commitment and thanked them for the invitation. The agency stated that its goal of promoting safety and readiness still heavily relies on involvement and education.
