Livingston, New Jersey — December 21 — A residential building fire on Mount Pleasant Avenue was reported by Livingston Fire Department units. There were reports of a potential trapped occupant and severe fire conditions on the second and third stories when first-arriving companies arrived. In order to ensure that every resident had left before they arrived, Engine Company 5 advanced a handline and carried out a primary search. Later, a family dog was discovered dead.
Interior staff were evacuated and activities momentarily switched to defensive master streams as the top level fire conditions deteriorated. Firefighters re-entered the building and began inside operations once there was enough knockdown. Before the fire was contained, Livingston and mutual help organizations worked for around two hours.
