Somerdale, NJ — December 2 — Station 64 of the Stratford Fire Department responded to a reported home fire in Somerdale. When the first units arrived, they discovered that the house's chimney was on fire. Crews worked to contain the fire and stop it from spreading into the house's living spaces.
This was the second fire involving fireplace use in the region since Friday. Because heating appliances are used more frequently during the colder months, fire officials have observed an increase in chimney and fireplace fires. Members stressed the significance of maintaining fireplaces properly, which includes safe operation procedures and routine chimney cleaning. During the event, no injuries were recorded. In order to lower the risk of fire throughout the winter, fire officials continue to advise locals to exercise caution when using heating equipment and fires.
