Vehicle Fire Shuts Down Portion of Interstate 81 in Dupont

December 21, 2025 — Emergency crews responded to a vehicle fire along Interstate 81 in the Dupont area on Sunday night, prompting traffic disruptions and a large emergency response. The incident occurred on December 21, 2025, when reports came in of a vehicle fully involved in flames on the interstate.

Upon arrival, first responders encountered heavy fire and thick smoke coming from the vehicle, which was located along the shoulder of the highway. Fire crews worked quickly to bring the blaze under control while law enforcement secured the scene and managed traffic to ensure the safety of motorists and emergency personnel. Portions of Interstate 81 were temporarily restricted as crews extinguished the fire and addressed roadway hazards.

No injuries were reported in connection with the incident. The cause of the fire has not been released, and authorities continue to investigate. Motorists traveling through the area experienced delays during the response but traffic was later restored once the scene was cleared.
