A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for much of northeast Pennsylvania, including the Hanover Township area, as hazardous winter conditions are expected to impact travel through early Saturday morning.
According to the U.S. National Weather Service, the advisory went into effect at 1 p.m. Friday, December 26, and will remain in place until 7 a.m. Saturday, December 27. The advisory covers a broad region that includes Luzerne, Lackawanna, Wyoming, and surrounding counties.
Forecasters warn that periods of snow, mixed precipitation, and icy conditions may develop, particularly during the overnight hours. Roads could become slippery, especially on untreated surfaces, bridges, and elevated roadways. Reduced visibility and slick travel conditions are possible, which may affect commuters and emergency response times.
The Hanover Township Fire Department urges residents to use caution if travel is necessary, slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and remain alert for changing weather conditions. Motorists are also encouraged to monitor local forecasts and roadway updates as conditions evolve.
Residents are reminded to prepare for winter weather by checking heating systems, ensuring vehicles are winter-ready, and having emergency supplies available at home and in vehicles.
