Following recent snowfalls, the Germania Hose Company is reminding residents to clear snow and ice from fire hydrants near their homes to ensure quick access during emergencies. Fire officials ask homeowners to maintain at least a three-foot clearance around hydrants and to shovel a clear path from the hydrant to the street.

Keeping hydrants visible and accessible allows firefighters to rapidly connect to a water supply, reducing response times and helping protect lives and property. The department emphasized that a few minutes of effort by residents can make a critical difference during a fire.

Firefighters thanked the community for their continued cooperation and support, encouraging everyone to remain vigilant throughout the winter season to help keep Duryea safe.
