Freeland Fire Chief Joseph J. Stepansky and members of the Freeland Fire Department expressed their appreciation this week to borough residents and local businesses who took the time to clear snow and ice from around fire hydrants following recent winter weather.
Keeping hydrants accessible allows firefighters to quickly secure a water supply in the event of a fire, a critical factor when seconds matter. Residents were reminded to maintain a clear three-foot perimeter around hydrants and ensure a clear path to the street throughout the winter season.
In addition to community outreach efforts, the department responded to two incidents over the past 12 hours. Both were truck and engine assignments that were cancelled while en route. The first was a structure fire box in Weatherly Borough, Carbon County, and the second an automatic fire alarm assist to Foster Fire.
