Just before 5:00 p.m. on December 15, stations 221, 222, 225, and 227 were sent to Incident 1147 for a car accident involving a police pursuit in the 2000 block of Lincoln Road. Fire units were instructed to stage in the area after AC911 reported that the Penn Hills Police Department was engaged in a foot pursuit while units were responding.
One alleged actor was found by a K-9 unit several hundred yards into a wooded area after the pursuit. Rescue teams were then asked by the police to help with patient access and removal. Following the response from rescue units 227 and 222, a rescue technician from 227 and Penn Hills EMS entered the hillside to examine the patient.
Additional rescue personnel were needed because of the steep terrain, snow, and frigid conditions. The person was safely rescued by crews using a rope hauling system, treated, and taken to a nearby medical facility with non-life-threatening injuries. 227CHF spearheaded operations, while 221CHF maintained command.
