Mount Laurel, New Jersey — December 8 — As part of its outreach efforts for Fire Prevention Month, the Mount Laurel Fire Department honored a local kid. Gabe Bacon of Larchmont Elementary School won the coloring contest for Fire Prevention Month in October. Firefighters gave Gabe a ride on a fire equipment to school as part of the award. Students and staff flocked outside to greet him and take in the fire department apparatus as the unit arrived.

Through classroom and community events, Fire Prevention Month activities aim to promote student involvement and reinforce fundamental fire safety themes. Age-appropriate safety ideas are introduced through activities like coloring contests.
