The Cutchogue Fire Department reached a major milestone this week as the transition into its new firehouse officially began. Crews from Jernick Moving and Storage started relocating the contents of the CFD annex and storage facilities into the new building, marking the first step toward full operations in early 2026.
This initial phase focuses on moving the administrative functions of both the Fire District and the Department. Furniture, office equipment, computers, and critical records were carefully transferred as construction crews continue final work on minor details and communications system upgrades.
In recent days, several pieces of apparatus were backed into the new building for the first time as crews tested key features, including the diesel exhaust system designed to support emergency vehicles. Once construction and communications work is complete, the department will begin the full transition of apparatus and emergency response operations into the new facility.
Throughout the construction process, CFD has remained fully operational, continuing to respond to emergencies from its storage buildings across from the firehouse. Emergency equipment and communications remain based there for now, with a dedicated houseman available daily from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Business inquiries can continue to be directed to the district office, while all emergencies should still be reported by dialing 911.
Department officials expressed gratitude to the community for its continued patience and support, noting that the move represents an exciting new chapter for CFD. More updates are expected as the department gets closer to calling the new firehouse home.
