On 14th Dec 2025, Bridgehampton Fire Department EMTs recently completed a comprehensive 16-hour Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) course held at the firehouse, reinforcing their commitment to providing the highest level of emergency medical care in the field.
The training was led by Christopher Fischer, Prehospital Education & Outreach Coordinator from Stony Brook University Hospital’s Division of Trauma, Department of Surgery. The PHTLS program, developed by the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) in cooperation with the American College of Surgeons’ Committee on Trauma, emphasizes critical thinking, rapid assessment, and evidence-based decision-making in trauma situations.
Throughout the course, EMTs participated in hands-on scenarios covering patient assessment, spinal precautions, circulation management, and trauma interventions designed to mirror real-world emergencies. These exercises ensured members could apply classroom instruction directly to practical, lifesaving skills.
Bridgehampton Fire Department expressed its appreciation to Mr. Fischer and Stony Brook University Hospital for their continued partnership in professional development, underscoring the department’s dedication to ongoing education and preparedness for when residents and visitors need emergency care most.
