Two rescued from flood waters

On Sunday Morning December 16,2018 at 0908hrs crews from Berkeley Springs Volunteer Fire Company, Morgan County EMS, Morgan County Sheriff’s Department and Washington County MD Special Operations Team responded to 5679 River Road in Berkeley Springs near the one lane bridge for a Water Rescue reported sinking vehicle. Rescue Squad 1, Wagon 13, Deputy Chief 1, Medic 76, Medic 77, Washington county Rescue squad 201, Boat Support 20, and Boat 20 responded. Deputy Chief 1 arrived at 0918hrs reporting a vehicle with water up to the passenger door two occupants on the roof and rapidly rising water. Due to the rapidly rising flood water DC1 requested Maryland State Police Helicopter Trooper 5 for a hoist operation, the request was denied due to weather. Medic 77 & Medic 76 were next to arrive on scene followed by Wagon 13 and Rescue Squad 1, the vehicle and occupants were to far out to be able to reach with throw bags. Washington County Boat 20 and Boat Support 20 arrived at 0943hrs and rapidly deployed the boat as the flood waters were now up halfway over the windshield. Boat 20 was deployed at 0954, completed two grabs at 0958 and was back on shore at 0958hrs. Two persons were assessed by Morgan County EMS and refused transport to the hospital. All units cleared the scene by 1018hrs with command terminated.
