Carneys Point, NJ — November 17 — The Carneys Point Fire Department & Rescue Squad Inc. is asking drivers to slow down, move over, and stay vigilant when approaching roadway incident scenes in observance of Crash Responder Safety Week. Highway crews, firefighters, EMS staff, law enforcement officials, and tow drivers frequently operate within feet of moving traffic, putting them at serious risk. When emergency vehicles are stopped on the road, drivers are required by New Jersey's Move Over legislation to change lanes whenever practicable or slow down. Distracted driving and secondary crashes continue to be a concern at traffic incidents, according to departments. Safety can be significantly increased by staying alert, slowing down, and abiding by traffic laws. In order to safeguard responders and the public, the department urges all drivers to use extreme caution when approaching emergency scenes.
