Newton, NJ — November 28th — A structure fire that needed a ladder assignment prompted the Newton Volunteer Fire Department to react on mutual assistance into Fredon Township. Within three minutes of being dispatched, Chief 810 and Ladder 2, along with a crew of five, were operational. Due to limited hydrants and known water supply challenges in the area, additional staffing was secured and Engine 1 responded as a tanker engine with a crew of four.

Ten minutes or so after marking en route, both units arrived. A handline was used to help with initial suppression, and Ladder 2 was set up to create an aerial canal. Engine 1 relayed water from arriving tankers and supplied water to the ladder. Newton Fire operated on scene for approximately three hours before being released by incident command.
