Newton, NJ — November 16th — Two distinct occurrences involving a vehicle fire and a chimney fire were handled by the Newton Volunteer Fire Department. Initially, firefighters were sent to a house on Carriage Lane due to a chimney fire that had been put out before they arrived. Crews found the house to be heavily smoke-filled, cleared the fireplace of any contaminated materials, looked for an extension and ventilated the building. when just over an hour, units were removed when a roof survey revealed no fire expansion.
Later, a car fire was reported, and personnel were sent to Sussex County Community College on College Hill Road. Firefighters swiftly used a handline to put out a working car fire that they discovered beneath solar panels. Overhaul verified that the vehicle's fire was controlled. There were no reported injuries.
