Witmer Fire Protective Association volunteers, along with surrounding mutual aid departments, responded around noon on November 22, 2025, to a reported two-vehicle crash on Horseshoe Road in front of Conestoga Valley High School. The incident occurred as the school day was ending early, drawing immediate attention from students and staff in the area.

The crash involved a passenger vehicle and a tow truck and resulted in one individual becoming confined inside a vehicle. Notably, three Witmer junior firefighters had just exited the school at the time of the crash and witnessed the incident. With no emergency units yet on scene, the juniors quickly took action by calling 9-1-1, keeping bystanders at a safe distance, and checking on the condition of the confined occupant until help arrived.

Squad 62 was dispatched and arrived to confirm the confinement. Firefighters performed a single door removal using a combination hydraulic tool, successfully freeing the trapped individual. Hazards were mitigated, patient care was transferred, and the roadway was reopened shortly after the rescue was completed.

The incident marked Witmer Fire’s 399th call of the year and the 14th entrapment or confinement response handled by the department in 2025. Department officials praised the quick thinking and professionalism displayed by both responding crews and the junior firefighters, highlighting the importance of training and preparedness in emergency situations.

Witmer Fire Protective Association continues to serve East Lampeter Township and surrounding communities with a focus on life safety, teamwork, and community involvement, while encouraging new members to consider joining the organization in the coming year.
