Hillside, N.J. — November 17 — As part of a mutual assistance assignment, members of the Hillside FMBA assigned to HFD Tour 3 responded to a fourth-alarm structure fire in Roselle using Truck 1 (Ladder 1). As soon as it arrived, Ladder 1 was put into action and given truck company responsibilities under incident command. Crews collaborated with several local departments to provide ventilation, access, and overhaul assistance for suppression operations. Truck companies are essential in supporting engine companies on the fireground during fourth-alarm incidents, which need for coordinated operations and ongoing personnel. While workers battled the fire and secured the building, Ladder 1 was in operation for a considerable amount of time. The response emphasized the value of interagency cooperation and mutual aid.
