Mastic N.Y. On Friday December 3rd the Mastic Fire Department held their annual tree lighting ceremony on Mastic Rd at Poospatuck Ln. The location is home to the Mastic Memorial Park. Last year due to the Covid-19 Pandemic the department was unable to hold this event. This year the department put out the word through all forms of social media that the event would return. Over 200 people turned out according to a statement from the department. Members of the department and their family as well as the community were able to attend. The evening began with a performance by the William Floyd School’s Select Choir. They sang many wonderful holiday favorites. After the Chior was done Brookhaven Town Councilman Dan Panico Joined the Department at the tree and assisted with lighting the tree.
The Fire Department Assisted their special guest Santa Clause to get to the site in his very own float attached to one of the departments utility trucks. Once he arrived Santa greeted all the boys and girls and their families with a smile and waived hello to them. The pubic was able to take some photos of their children/ families in front of Santas’s float while he smiled and waved before he headed back to the “North Pole” to get ready for his next event of the busy week. The event was enjoyed by all who attended and light refreshments were even served by the Ladies Auxiliary of the Mastic FD.
