Berkeley Heights, N.J. — November 11 — The Berkeley Heights Fire Department honoured the men and women who have served in the US military in observance of Veterans Day. Members considered the dedication, selflessness, and sense of responsibility exhibited by veterans—qualities that emergency service personnel also possess.

On November 11, 1919, Veterans Day was first observed as Armistice Day, commemorating the conclusion of World War I. In 1926, Congress authorized an annual celebration, and in 1938, the date was declared a national holiday. In honor of all American veterans, alive and dead, the day was subsequently renamed Veterans Day. In contrast to Memorial Day, which honors those who lost their lives while serving their country, Veterans Day focusses especially on expressing gratitude to living veterans who served honorably both in times of war and peace.
