Assembly Bill A6075, a historic piece of legislation intended to make emergency medical services a vital service in New Jersey, was formally introduced, according to the New Jersey State Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association (NJ FMBA). The initiative, which was introduced on November 17, 2025, and is being sponsored by Assemblywoman Carol Murphy, aims to give EMS the same legal protections that have long been granted to police and fire personnel.

The NJ FMBA claims that making EMS an essential service will build a legal framework to protect steady funding, supplies, training, and employee retention. In order to prevent disruptions in care throughout the state, it would also compel municipalities to continue providing basic life support services and guarantee that sufficient EMS resources are accessible during difficult economic times.

The FMBA thanked Assemblywoman Murphy for championing this long-overdue priority and encouraged EMS providers to continue engaging with legislators in support of the bill. Leaders emphasized that advocacy from those in the EMS community remains critical as A6075 moves through the legislative process.
