Animals Lost in Barn Fire at Mendon Animal Sanctuary

MENDON, NY - On Wednesday evening, December 7th, Mendon and Honeoye Falls Fire Departments were dispatched to a reported barn fire at the Odonata Animal Sanctuary at 20 Parish Road in Mendon.
Upon arrival, a barn was found approximately 1,000-feet off the roadway fully involved with some extension to a nearby home. The family and their dogs were able to get out of the home safely. Several animals escaped the barn, however, some ducks, geese and chickens did not survive.
A second-alarm was struck, bringing in tankers from numerous departments from Monroe, Ontario and Livingston Counties.
The cause of the blaze was under investigation by the Monroe County Fire Bureau.
