The Wilton Fire Department responded to a fuel spill at Scotty’s Truck Stop at 1:09 a.m. after reports of a tractor-trailer that struck an object on I-87 near mile marker 40. Crews arrived to find a 100-gallon saddle tank leaking diesel fuel into the parking lot. Initial containment was started using absorbent booms and material to control the spread.
Due to the size of the leak and the need for additional support, the Saratoga County Hazmat Team was requested. Their arrival helped slow the leak and secure diesel in containment bins. Wilton Highway and DOT officials were notified, and sand was brought in to assist operations.
By 3:30 a.m., control of the scene was transferred to NYS DEC Spill Response and DOT personnel.Wilton Fire Department thanked all cooperating agencies for their assistance, noting that coordinated response is essential for managing hazardous materials incidents safely.
