Manchester, NH — November 6 — The City of Manchester, NH Fire Department is reminding homeowners and emergency personnel of the risks associated with this invisible gas as November is designated as Carbon Monoxide Awareness Month. Furnaces, fireplaces, and generators are examples of fuel-burning appliances that emit carbon monoxide (CO). Exposure might occur suddenly because CO cannot be seen or smelt. Headache, lightheadedness, and nausea are typical symptoms. The best approach to find a leak early and assist people in leaving safely is with CO alarms. The government suggests putting alarms on every level of the home, especially near bedrooms, and testing them regularly. As colder weather increases heating consumption, responders advise the community to plan appliance maintenance and keep vents clear to avoid CO events.?
