Banks County Lifts Burn Permit Requirement

On November 20, 2025, Banks County Emergency Services announced that burn permits are no longer required for residents burning hand-piled natural yard debris such as leaves, limbs, and other natural vegetation. While permits are no longer needed for these small residential burns, officials emphasize that all state outdoor burning safety guidelines must still be followed. Residents are reminded to burn only natural yard debris, supervise fires at all times, maintain adequate clearance from woodlands and structures, keep water and tools close by, burn only during daylight hours, and ensure fires are completely extinguished before leaving. Burning household garbage or construction materials remains strictly prohibited, and outdoor burning should be avoided during high winds or unsafe weather conditions. Agriculture, silviculture, and land-clearing burns still require authorization from Georgia Forestry, and individuals conducting those burns must obtain a permit by calling 1-800-428-7337. Banks County Emergency Services encourages anyone with questions to contact them at 706-677-1812 as they continue prioritizing community safety.
