?November 3, 2025 — The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS), in partnership with the National Weather Service, has designated November 5 as Severe Weather Preparedness Day, urging schools, businesses, and residents across the state to participate in a coordinated severe weather exercise and tornado drill at approximately 9:30 a.m. GEMA/HS Director Josh Lamb highlighted the importance of the event, noting that it helps families and organizations revisit emergency plans, identify safe shelter locations, and ensure they have multiple reliable ways to receive weather alerts. The National Weather Service reports that Georgia often experiences a secondary peak in severe weather—including tornadoes—during November and early December, underscoring the need for readiness. Through the Ready Georgia campaign, GEMA/HS offers emergency kit checklists, communication planning tools, and preparedness guides for businesses and children. During the statewide drill, NOAA Weather Radios will broadcast a special Routine Weekly Test simultaneously from all six National Weather Service Forecast Offices covering Georgia. Local emergency management agencies also remain available to support residents with safety planning and preparedness information.
