On November 17, 2025, Baldwin County Fire Rescue responded under automatic aid to assist Milledgeville Fire after a controlled burn escalated beyond control on the Central State Hospital grounds near the Kemper Building. Fire crews arrived to find 2–3 acres actively burning, multiple power poles impacted, and two buildings threatened. One structure sustained a one-room fire as a result of the spread.
Through coordinated efforts between Baldwin County Fire Rescue, Milledgeville Fire, and supporting agencies, the fire was quickly contained. Crews remain on scene extinguishing hot spots to prevent rekindling, while Georgia Forestry is plowing a containment break around the affected area.
Residents are urged to avoid the area as overhaul operations continue. The incident highlighted strong interagency teamwork and an effective emergency response under challenging conditions.
